Questions on ICT....

If you had the chance would you utilize ICT (CALL) in your teaching?
Of course I will.

How do you think it would help (or would not help) your students to learn English?
It will help them a lot because of the mass information that can be retrieved (if using the Internet) and because of the ideas and information that we try to deliver is not dull and boring like what traditional learning materials have.

What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of implementing CALL in the Malaysian schools?
the advantages are too many to be stated here. I would say that it will be more fun and interactive and students could use ICT as their second teacher and do not depending 100% on their teacher. The disadvantages are it is sometime very hard to master the technology in using ICT and students might use the technology to go deviance. There are also a lot of school that do not have basic facility and equipment to implement ICT well.

What are the barriers in implementing CALL in the Malaysian classroom?
As I mentioned above, there are a lot of school without basic facility and equipment to run ICT related class. The students are also unfamiliar with ICT because its implementation is still new in our schools. The students might also rejected the idea of using ICT if they are too exam-based.

Please also include any other comments/thoughts/ideas on this topic
ICT can be implemented well in this country if government is very serious to make it a way of learning. it should start from the students' early days as kindergarten students and continue to primary and secondary. it will also take time to see the effect and it should be evaluated from time to time to see if there are any flaws that can be mended.
